Player Management
Someone once said to me "to make the Olympic squad, all you need to do is do ALL the paperwork". Judo players are notoriously bad at doing their paperwork, they disadvantage themselves by mishandling paperwork, failing to plan properly, etc.
Player management is common in professional sports, players often have a "Personal Assistant", who manages the day to day affairs of the player, freeing the athlete to concentrate on their sport.
In Judo, this is not yet the normal situation, I would like to see it be that way. presently we expect our players to compete in one of the hardest sports in the world AND keep all the other things under control. We expect players to learn or change their ways to be better at paperwork, to be better prepared for trips and competitions.
This is not the way forward! We need to free our athletes from these tasks and reassign them to experienced managers with the skills, experience, time and aptitude to do the paperwor, to plan the transport, to buy the tape, etc.
I would welcome contact from any player or organiser) who agrees with these ideas and would like to explore how to implement a player management strategy
