Coaching Teams
Although an individual sport, teams are vital to Judo performance. A well coached team lifts the performance of all the players on the team.
To develop a team, you must develop both the player and the team, you need to identify the joint and the individual strengths and use them to raise everyones game.
Recently I have coached both the British Army and the Royal Navy Judo Teams (2005).
The experience with the Royal Navy involved a week long training camp, players were of varying levels. We were able to work together to hone the skills of all the players involved. All the players developed their own skills, I did not teach them anything! They developed their own skills and learned from themselves and one another, I simply stood at the front and gave them directions to explore.
